Suits was the first TV show I watched and for me, it is the best. From the very first episode I was fascinated by Harvey Specter’s personality and I am sure those who have watched Suits would have felt the same. In this blog post, I will be talking about one and only the Great Harvey Specter.

Harvey Specter

About Harvey Specter

Harvey Reginald Specter is a Harvard graduate and a competent corporate attorney who works in Pearson Hardman. The character is referred to as the best closer in New York City. Before joining the firm he used to work as an Assistant District Attorney for the New York County District Attorney’s Office. This is the place where he met Donna Paulsen (Secretary) who turned out to be one of the important persons of his life. He has an impressive record of handling more than 18 thousand cases in 2 years and winning all 147 cases that went for trial.

He is confident like no one else, unstoppable, and a risk-taker. What makes him unstoppable is his exceptional ability to keep aside emotions and go to the far ends to win the case. After being promoted to Senior Partner he hired Mike Ross (Harvey’s Associate) a talented college dropout as his associate.

Why Harvey Specter is the best Mentor

When Mike joined the firm, Harvey was the only one whom he could trust. Mike had a photographic memory which made him think that he is perfect. Harvey took the responsibility for Mike’s mistakes and made him realize that being smart is not sufficient in the professional world and one needs to have a proper skill set to be a great lawyer. He was with Mike all the time and taught him to deal with real-world cases and to not let his emotions get in the way of his job.

Harvey Specter Knows his Clients

Harvey was not only good in his profession but also in reading other person’s minds. Whenever Harvey wants to land a client, he understands their perspective and what they are looking for precisely. Unlike other lawyers, he would follow his way to impress them. Back when he wanted to impress Avery Mckernon who was the founder of Mckernon Motors, he didn’t even prepare a presentation like others instead showed his certificate which proved that he is a trustworthy attorney. He refused to drop Mckernon Motors when his boss Daniel Hardman (Managing Partner) asked him to do to get another client which shows how valuable his clients are to him.

Harvey Specter can do anything for the people he loves

Harvey’s respect and trust are not demanded rather it has to be earned. He is ready to lay himself on the train tracks to protect the people he cares about. Throughout the show, we have seen Harvey making countless sacrifices. During Mike’s Character Fitness Test, he was ready to admit in front of the New York Bar that Mike was a fraud when he hired him, to let Mike get admitted into the Bar. When Harvey and Donna helped Thomas Kessler(Client) they broke attorney-client privilege and were vulnerable to getting disbarred. He begged Thomas Kessler to lie in court to save Donna from summoning in front of the firing squad. This shows that even if people consider him cold Harvey will never let his closed ones down.

Harvey Specter’s Mantra to Deal any Problem

We know that to win big, one needs to go through many challenges. The difference between winner and loser is how one tackles the situation. Throughout the series, Harvey has faced many challenges be it the risk of Mike getting caught or Daniel Hardman trying to take over the firm

he managed to solve all the time. Whenever a situation arises, he doesn’t lose his control and chooses the best possible way to tackle it. He believes that there is always a choice and protected Mike by reminding him the same when he decided to get help from Charles Forstman (Shady Banker) after he lost his investor.

You always have a choice ~ Harvey Specter

BEST Quote from Harvey Specter

There are many quotes from Harvey Specter but my personal favorite is “Winners don’t make excuses when the other side plays the game”. Harvey said this to Mike when he was clueless and was looking for a way to defeat his opponent in the mock trial. He said this to Mike because he knew how much potential Mike had and he wanted him to discover it by himself. From this quote, I understand what separates the winners from the rest is their willingness to accept responsibility and learn from their mistakes.
